Captains Drive in 2023
The three captains, Mick Turner, John Castel and Eileen Banham (standing in for Debbie Plane) drove off to start the 1st competition of the year a Texas Scramble. It was a little bit showery but otherwise the weather was fine. A great turnout and a good day was had by all. The winner team was Mick Rust, Anita Hartley and Wayne Dowler with a ghost player. Many thanks as always to Mo, Pippa and Gill for arranging and for Mick Turner in ensuring the day went well. Over £100 raised for charity so a great start to the new year.
John Banham
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of John Banham. He was a great stalwart of the club and was a key figure in our teams for the Myhill, Cullington, Barnard andthe Thursday League, where he captained for many seasons. He also supported the Wednesday and Saturday competitions as well as all the other Caldecott cups and trophies. His wife, Eileen, captained the ladies section several times. John was one of our longest serving members, having joined just as the course opened. R.I.P.
Funeral at the Waveney Crematorium 12pm Wednesday 2nd March and afterwards at the King Alfred in Carlton Colville.
Frank Hayes Trophy
Frank is pictured here with club captain Bob Adams receiving the Frank Hayes Trophy which will be presented to the winner of the Spring Fair each year from now on.
Frank is 90 and is still walking the course three or four times each week. He recently scored 4 strokes below his age so is still a force to be reckoned with.
David Chipperfield wins Captains Claret
David Chipperfield went round in 38 points to win on countback from Peter Clemenst with Allan Schoenherr 3rd on 37 points. Bob Adams, club captain, is seen here presenting the trophy to David.
Well done to all who entered the competition, it was played in a great spirit.
